Marugen Ramen is a popular chain store with over 200 stores nationwide. There are many people who are curious about this huge Urasoe store, which opened along National Route 58. I finally went there the other day.
A lively store full of energy
When you enter the store, you'll hear a cheerful "Welcome!" voice. All the staff chant together in unison, creating a lively atmosphere that feels like a festival. Such strict regulations are expected from chain stores. Before I knew it, they had opened three stores in Okinawa Prefecture (Kokuba, Makiminato, and Misato).
A great value set that lets you enjoy a variety of tastes
The selling point of this ramen is the original matured soy sauce, which is a blend of three kinds of rich domestic soy sauce and carefully brings out the flavor from more than 20 kinds of ingredients. The signature product is the "Niku Soba" (meat soba) that uses this soy sauce. They also have other ramen such as dandan noodles, miso, and pork bone, so you can choose according to your mood that day. Furthermore, you can enjoy the set menu at a great price regardless of the time of day.
Does aged soy sauce meat soba taste very similar to that?
Since this was my first time, I ordered the most popular dish, ``Aged Soy Sauce Meat Soba,'' and ``Tandanmen,'' which had a completely different taste. The meat soba is topped with grated yuzu and pepper, giving it a refreshing aroma that is not typical of ramen.
What surprised me when I tried it was the taste of the golden-brown soup. The gentle sweetness and flavor spread throughout your mouth, making you think, "Huh? I'm eating ramen right now, right?" It might be more like meat and potatoes than ramen. I feel like this flavor is very similar to the soup from Dotonbori Kamukura, a popular ramen restaurant based in Kansai...(This is just my personal opinion).
The different flavors and side menus are also great.
It's quite unique compared to regular soy sauce ramen soups, so I think people can clearly tell whether they like it or not, but personally, the taste was striking. Moreover, you can enjoy it two or three times by changing the taste with the seasonings provided on the table. for example···
I think it's probably for gyoza, but you can also add a bit of the thick chili oil on the right of the photo, or change it to a Hakata ramen-like flavor with the Nozawana sauce on the left of the photo. Also, when you melt the grated yuzu pepper that comes on top of the soup, the flavor of the meat soba instantly changes to something fruity and punchy. This is interesting!
The teppan egg fried rice (served in a unique way!) and Marugen gyoza (this one is the classic!) that come with the set are also of a high standard, and they also have a large number of talented reserve players who make the ramen even more delicious.
This time, I didn't order anything because I didn't have children with me, but Marugen Ramen also has a children's menu. As you can see from the photo, the ramen soup seems to have a mild flavor with a low fat content. They also provide hot water for baby food and milk, which is reassuring for those with children.
The staff are very energetic and the seats are spaced apart, making it very comfortable. The unique soup has a nice taste and is also popular with families, so it's a great place to be. I haven't been to many chain restaurants in the past, but I was impressed that they have the appeal to attract people and are able to expand nationwide.
Oh, I forgot! The dandan noodles I ordered with the meat soba were like this! The noodles were delicious with the rich soup with sesame paste. Although it was listed as level 2 spicy, it was mild and went down easily. Next time, I think I'll try the spicy dandan noodles with level 5 spiciness. No, I think I'll go for the meat soba after all.
